Donning costumes and reproducing scenes from such classic films as Star Wars, Breakfast at Tiffany’s, Saturday Night Fever, Mary Poppins and Titanic, residents at Conservatory at Wells Branch created a 2015 calendar to support the Pflugerville Fire Department. Participating “models” range in age from 72 to 101, and their photos are accompanied by some of the greatest movie quotes of all time.

The 2015 calendars are for sale for $8 from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily in the lobby of Conservatory at Wells Branch, located at 14320 Tandem Blvd. in Austin. Proceeds from the calendar sales are being donated to support fire safety programs and for seniors and children. Firefighters from the Pflugerville Fire Department recently visited Conservatory to educate residents on fire safety and emergency procedures.

“These men and women are not only skillfully trained in their duties as first responders, but are always compassionate and kind to our residents, providing respect and dignity to those who feel most vulnerable,” said Lisa Joy, executive director of Conservatory at Wells Branch, “This calendar fundraiser is our way of saying ‘thank you’ to them.”

The calendar was created and designed by Bill Bartling, a resident of Conservatory since November 2011. His desire to stay educated and active with new and interesting projects motivated him to produce the calendar, and he was thrilled to work with his fellow residents. “Taking the pictures was really fun,” Bartling said, “The participants and I did a lot of laughing.”

Bartling kept the project as secret as possible and chose residents who he thought would fit the part. “I scheduled the pictures at different times so even they would not know who else would be in the calendar,” he said.

Joy said this project demonstrates how Conservatory at Wells Branch is not just a home, but a community for its residents. “Wells Branch is a very active, vibrant and social community,” Joy said, “Our residents have so much fun, and living in such an active community really enhances their lives by providing so many opportunities for friendship, socializing and support.”

AGE Computer of Austin assisted with props, and the Settlement Home of Austin provided clothing and accessories for the photo shoot. Printing Center USA in Great Falls, Montana printed the calendar.
