The past few weeks have been a trying time for our residents, communities, and team members. However, in the midst of violent weather, the compassion of the human spirit always seems to shine through. Recently, one of our communities, The Conservatory at Champion Forest, had to be evacuated due to flooding and damage to the building and infrastructure caused by Hurricane Harvey in Houston Texas. Residents were evacuated to one of our sister communities, Discovery Village at Castle Hills, in the Dallas Texas area. Team members worked overtime and in the midst of stressful conditions to welcome the residents of Champion Forest with open arms. As Discovery Senior Living is one big family, another one of our sister communities in Reading, Pennsylvania wanted to show there support.
From Executive Director, Cindy Ohlmann, Discovery Village at Castle Hills: “Just wanted to share that our community received a care package from the team at Rittenhouse Villages at Muhlenberg in Reading, Pennsylvania last week. The box was filled with handwritten notes and cards, homemade cookies, and crochet butterfly magnets for our Houston neighbors staying with us. It was totally unexpected and such a nice surprise! The residents loved the goodies. We’ve been amazed at the support and outpouring of kindness during this ordeal. Having sister communities as far away as Pennsylvania come to our rescue in a time of need is truly heart-warming.”
